Blue Mosque, Pink City

Yerevan is known to locals as ‘the pink city’ for its abundant use of tuff, a rock that wears a pale red hue due to remnants of volcanic ash. During Soviet Armenia, the Blue Mosque hosted a museum dedicated to the city since it could not operate under atheist policy. Now, the mosque stands distinctively in a pink city of churches.
